    Volunteer Opportunities

Mentor: Spend about 3 hours weekly or every other week with a child, 7-14, from a one parent home who wants the companionship of a mentor.

A-Team: help us plan and chaperone group activities for youth who are matched with a mentor and those on the waiting list.

Project Volunteer: Do what you would do anyway, but include a child. As an individual or a group, expose youth to new experiences. (Ex: Candlewood Yacht Club Sailing Day, Danbury Ski Club Ski Trip)

Tutoring: Help a child in need of extra academic support by helping with homework or going through school work.

Adopt-A-Family: Help purchase gifts or set up the gift distribution party for holiday gifts to Good Friend families in need of extra support.

Gift Wrapping: at Barnes & Noble near the December holidays. Work a 1-2 hour shift wrapping gifts in exchange for donations to Good Friend. It is also a great way to raise awareness about Good Friend’s need for volunteers.

Do a fundraiser for Good Friend: Every year Good Friend must raise 80% of its budget. Create a fundraiser that not only helps Good Friend financially, but also raises the awareness of the need for volunteers.

Help recruit new potential mentors: Set up a “Lunch & Learn” where fellow employees can find our more about the volunteer opportunities at Good Friend.

Send letters of introduction to other organizations with whom your members have a connection. Let them know about Good Friend, our need for volunteers, and our willingness to speak with them about what we do and about our needs.
